The brief & The Approach

As part of an advanced animation course, we were given an exercise to choose a particular aspect of creativity and interpret it through a short animation film.
For this project, i chose to focus on the less glamorous side of creativity- the moment were no matter how much you want an idea to appear, and no matter how tight the deadline is, creativity seems to have it's own rules and appear whenever it decides to.

Disclaimer!

Despite the dramatic tone, the interpretation is entirely humorous. I'm not nearly as dark or pessimistic as the description might suggest… I think..

The concept

A character, a good looking one shall I say, sits in front of his computer, trying- UNSUCCESFULLY- to come up with an idea before the deadline arrives until… well.. you'll see.

  • The graphic language and the way everything moves feel very strong — this same approach should continue through the remaining frames.

  • A few frames could be pushed further in terms of clarity of action. For instance, in the yawning scene, the hands currently read more as a celebratory gesture than a yawn.

  • Think about the most effective way to show the passage of time from day to night.

  • It may be worth exploring whether narration could be added to help lead the video.

As part of a previous exercise, we were asked to create a logo of our name, then to make a short animated sequence of it. all of the logo animations were later added to the end of the "Creativity is" animation.
